Well, my BFB KAL plans for the week have become a major fail. Apparently long blog posts while solo-ing on baby care are not compatible. Who-da thunk?
But, I want to make sure to get you more in-depth info on picking up stitches if you are knitting Bob in one piece, so here we go....
So first of all, you will be marking where to be picking up sts as you knit. You will just want to use a removable stitch marker and pop it through either the "bar" that a KFB increase creates for the legs, or through the stitch you have just knitted in the case of the wings and beak. Like so:
Then, once you come back to pick up stitches, they will be nicely marked:
To pick up a stitch on the knitted fabric, you are going to want to slip your needle under one of the sides of the "V" of the stitch, like so:
Then, grab your working yarn (in this case for this pattern, 2 strands of your working yarn held together), and wrap the yarn around you needle as if you were knitting the stitch:
Then pull through, just like knitting a stitch if it were on your left needle and moving it to your right needle. Tah-dah! One stitch picked up from bird and now ready on your right hand needle:
Continue to do this with the next stitch on the body. Slip needle under side of "V," wrap yarn around needle, pull through to create another stitch on your right needle:
You will keep doing this until you have half of the number of stitches called for to pick up. In the case of the wing, 6 stitches:
Then, you will want to flip your BFB upside down:
Pull your needle tip out and leave your picked up stitches on your cable:
And begin picking up stitches in the same way one row up:
And continue to pick up until all the sitches are on your needles:
The beginning of the round here is the the first stitch on your bottom needle (where the yarn tail is hanging down straight from). Pretty nifty, huh? If you find getting your needle tip under the stitches too tough, you can also use a small crochet hook to loop your yarn under the side of the "V":
Does that help with picking up stitches?
This is the only for-sure post I am going to do for this BFB KAL. I will continue to put up posts as I get questions, so make sure to get me those questions!
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!

How clever!
