I am working on my next knitting pattern and it has a new term in it, which is the perfect time for a tutorial. So here we go!
Just a note: I have chosen to do picture tutorials rather than video because personally I function better learning from picture tutorials since I can go at my own pace and don't have to keep stopping and starting a video. AND, I am going to show you how I actually do things, which is sometimes not the "right" way to do it.
M1L: A left leaning increase
First, look for the "bar" between the stitches, my right needle is pointing at it here:
Grab it with your needle. The "right" way to do it is with your left needle, generally I grab it with my right needle and move it onto my left needle though, like so:
Either way you grab it, in the end what you want is the "bar" on the left with the yarn going front to back over the left needle. Like so:
Now, use your right hand needle to go into the back of the stitch on your left hand needle and knit it. In other words, knit the bar to the back loop.
Voila, one stitch increased, leaning left.
Here it is in the finished row.
I even added it to my terms list. Next week I will do M1R, woo!

nice nails ; )

I noticed, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the first two pictures happen to be the same, so I'm not 100% sure what "bar" you are supposed to grab...
Otherwise, wonderful tutorial. Much appreciated.

Sid-
You are right, they were the same. Must have been a typepad glitch since it was right when I wrote it (I even double checked). I corrected it, does it make more sense now?

Quick question ... in step 2 you say: Grab it with your needle. The "right" way to do it is with your right needle, generally I grab it with my left needle and move it onto my right needle, like so:
Shouldn't it read
Grab it with your needle. The "right" way to do it is with your left needle, generally I grab it with my right needle and move it onto my left needle, like so:
Or am I doing it wrong??? :)
