Ah the Moebius. Any of you following me on twitter I am sure are familiar with the battle that has ensued between me and this project. Well, I finally finished it yesterday morning, and I have to say I have never been this happy to be through a project ever before. Here it is, pure evil:
I had never really wanted to do a Moebius, but some gals at Beach Basket wanted a class on it and since I have become designated teacher, I thought I better knit through one so I knew what I was doing. I of course had to pick a lacey pattern in Cat Bordhi's first Moebius book, A Treasury of Magical Knitting, since I wanted to end up with something pretty, even if it was a "have-to" knit. Big mistake. Lace and I have already butted heads in the past when I did my first lace weight shawl a couple summers ago. BUT, I have done lots of lacier patterns since then and I thought this one looked pretty simple. Wrong. Dead, hair pulling, name-calling, swearing, tears, and yarn-throwing wrong.
I had never wanted to knit this since I thought the twist in it (can you see it in the above picture?) would drive me nuts. Yup, I was right. I keep running my hand around it to try and flatten it out, but it stays twisted. I must admit, as much of an infuriating project as this was I can see myself wearing it twisted around my next as a cowl. It has a cute almost pointy edge which would look really elegant peaking out from under a coat, kinda like this:
In the end I learned that we will be doing a simple garter stitch or something similar version for the class. It really was a cool project, it knits out from the center and is very intriguing. I did mine in Farmhouse Yarns Fannie's Fingering, which is a really lovely yarn. It looks beautiful, knit up nice and easy, and feels good finished. I am liking the Moebius just a tiny bit more today after being done with it for over 24 hours. Who knows, in another year or so I might even attempt this or something similar again! But as of Saturday night I felt a little differently. I accidentally snapped this pic of it with way too much exposure:
Mr Danger and I recently watched that 1950's classic, The Blob, and that is all I can think of when I look at this picture. I do still believe a little bit that I captured the Moebius's soul with my lens in this shot, and that the Moebius is in fact a man eating alien from outer space that has come here to melt people and eat them. Yup, that would certainly explain some of this project. I do apologize now it that is in fact true, and that I brought life to a creature that will eventually take over the world. Whoops, my bad.
I am off to move on from the Moebius and fire up Photoshop. I am getting my next pattern done today and will do my final knit through in the next couple days. So, you heard here first, new pattern day this thursday, 4/15! I thought I would give everyone a special treat on Tax Day.

This sounds like my feelings towards a certain current project! We were probably both pulling out our hair at the same time. :)

I'm glad you survived the moebius. I don't know if I'll ever make one, I am just finally getting used to having scarves wrapped around my neck. The Loopy Ewe is in my hometown, St. Louis. I've never been there and don't know if I'll be able to go because my parents are moving to Arizona. I do still have some family there, so I'll cross my fingers. I look forward to seeing your new pattern!

I love Moebius knitting, and most of the "First Treasury of Magical Knitting" patterns are great, but I have to agree with you about that lace one. I've knit it several times and never yet ended up with something I can live with. Don't give up on the Moebius just because of that pattern--the baskets and bowls in Magical Knitting Volume 2 are awesome for gifts, and much more fun to make (plus you just can't even try to smooth a basket out).
