Thursday Knit Night: Chevron-Mania!

I was on Ravelry the other day and somehow in my endless project searching I noticed how many chevron pattern things I have been seeing lately! Not just on Ravelry either, it seems like the Missoni-mania at Target a few months back has been making everything come out chevrons these days.

I thought I would share some of my favorite chevron knitting projects with you today!

Thursday Knit Night: Feeling Rather Obsessed with Laura Chau

Wow, I am totally obsessing over Laura Chau this week. Here's her website, CosmicPluto, which I can't for the life of me remember how, but I stumbled across this last week for whatever reason. Definitely not a "I need more things that I desperately want to knit," sort of reason though, since I more than have that taken care of. 

Holy crud, I dug through some of her patterns when I first found her sight, and was immediately taken by her Massey Wrap, since I have been wrap obsessing the last few weeks too. I bought 3 skeins each of 2 different, yellow, sock yarns at Fibres West, one from Sweet Georgia (it was on sale!) and one from Handmaiden (it was not on sale...), with full intention of making 2 sock yarn sweaters. But for whatever reason I am now changing my mind since all I want it to knit big stole/shawl/wrappy thingies. If you are my friend on ravelry you might have noticed my stole-favoriting tendencies recently. So the Massey Wrap is totally right up my knitting alley.

Then, after leaving and coming back to it for whatever reason I discovered her Rayne Wrap Cardigan, which is perfectly blending my love of stole/shawl/wrappy things, but with a more wearable sweater. Which is just awesome-pants, since I make these stole/shawl/wrappy things, but never can wear them quite the way I envision them in my head. Which makes me think, "Well, why the heck am I obsessing and only wanting to make these stole/shawl/wrappy things, when I can't even figure out how the heck to wear them?" Yup, the Rayne Wrap Cardigan would definitely solve that problem. But I digress.

So, since I am favoriting more and more of her designs every time I hop on the flipping computer these days, and lovity-loving everything she does, I thought I would share that love with you and give you a little peak at what is catching my knitting eye right now:

Tephra Pullover: love the collar, love the buttons, love sock yarn sweaters. Want to start right now.

Sagano Shawl: Love the stitch pattern, love the cable edge, love the roundyness. Think I have a skein ot two of stash yarn that would be perfect for this.

Uxbridge Shawl: Love the open-weave-ness, love the size, love the simplicity, have the perfect yarn for this, too.

See what I mean? I think my favorite part of her garments are they are so simple, but seem to look great on a wide range of sizes when I dig through the Ravelry projects. Plus she has lots of free patterns and pay patterns. I could share her awesomeness with you all day, but I really need to go get knitting so I can get started on that Rayne Wrap Cardigan!

 

Thursday Knit Night: Kits!

Did you see I have a few new kits for sale on my website and in my etsy shop? I will be getting a Jerry kit out in the next couple weeks, too, but when I went to pack it up I realized I forgot to order the yarn for it, d'oh!

I have been falling down pretty badly on my Ravelry projects, but I am off to finish a Watershed tonight. I am having currently having a Medlinetosh moment, and my Watershed is coming out quite lovely.

 

Thursday Knit Night: Oh Bother

I ran out of yarn. Well, for the project I just finished, not as an in-general sort of thing. I just finished my Mizutama, like just cast off 2 minutes ago. Though now when I look back I see that the pattern calls for 455-470 yards, I missed that 470 when I looked at my 460 yards and thought "Well, 460 is more than 455 so I should be fine!" Nope. I cut down one eyelet row repeat, worked the garter stitch edging as called for (weighing my yarn the whole time, thinking, "That should be just enough."), but as I bound off I got through about 3/4 of the edge and realized I didn't have enough yarn. Sigh.

There is such a fine line of having enough yarn. I seem to generally go nuts, buying extra that I then never use. I always over-buy to be safe, but not this time (of course). Oh well, it still looks fab and no one will ever know but me! Oh, and, errr, all of you now since I just told you. Hmmm. My knitting secrets exposed. I guess if you see me in person wearing my Mizutama you should come up to me and say something along the lines of, "Umm, is there something wrong with that shawl? It doesn't seem to have enough repeats of the eyelet pattern or the garter edging. I think you did it wrong." That would totally make my day and make me laugh.

Thursday Knit Night: Meet Chadwick!

Wow it has been awhile since I have had a post like this, and how perfect to be my first "Thursday Knit Night" post. Meet Chadwick the Shakespearean Caterpillar!

After so many, many (many!) requests, I have finally gotten this guy done. I lurve him and so does The Kid:

Yup. Gratuitous use of my baby as a model. That's what we have come to. Here's some more:

This guy is perfect for self-striping sock yarn, or to use up bits and bobs of yarn. Each segment only took about 35-45 yards on the worsted weight one. He'd also be great to add crinkles, and bells, and rattles to for a baby discovery toy. He's awesome.

Notice the name change from Charlie to Chadwick? Well, when I originally wrote the pattern for the LYS tour I had forgotten I already had a monster named Charlie. So, I decided Chadwick was a good name instead! Chadwick is available through Knit Picks, or I am setting it up on Ravelry after I finish typing this for international buyers who have difficulty with the Knit Picks website.
