This Week I Am Loving....

Thanks to every one who has already signed up on my mailing list. Wow! Huge response, I am so excited to see that!

This week I am loving my Jordana Paige The Knitter's Satchel.

Mr Danger got me one in brown a couple years ago for Christmas and I have been using it on and off ever since. It is a really great bag, I do love it. I carried it every day for awhile, but since that was several years ago I have changed to a leopard everyday bag since. I mean, a girl's gotta change up her handbag every now and again!

I have a bevy of bins and bags and project containment systems. Enough that they took up their own large box when I moved. Generally I tend to gather yarns and supplies into a sterilite shoebox as I am sorting new pattern designs out, which then get stored on a shelf until I am ready to get started knitting. The bin then gets toted around depending on where I am knitting, and never works out quite right.

When I went to the Seattle Knitter's Guild a few weeks ago I grabbed my Knitter's Satchel and that was my project travel bag. Ever since I have been using it every day! I transfer all yarn out of the sterilite bin, add in my notions kit and needles and anything else I need, then I haul the bag up to my office or down to my couch depending on where I am knitting. What a happy accident, I love it! I thought I should only be using it for transporting knitting out of the house, but my goodness, it opens so wide and has all the little pockets and organizers, and it works even better around the house than for travel. Plus, my knitting project is always packed up and ready to go. And it fits my ipad quite nicely.

If you have ever thought about getting one (I lusted for like 5 years before Mr Danger bought me mine), do it! You will be very pleased. I personally have my eye on the pink one now, since the one I have is working out so well for me....

Alrighty. Off to wait for baby to make his appearance. He is apparently as stubborn as both of his parents!

And The Rest Of It

Hi there. Nope, no baby yet. (I just like to preemptively strike these days since that's all I hear.)

Ready for the rest of the nursery sewing projects? 

The crib bumpers and crib sheets I made. Plus a couple monsters I've made (recognize a Hugo from the book? The yellow guy we found on clearance last fall at Babies R Us. For those of you who have mentioned it too, I am aware of the SIDS/Bumpers risk. They are not really to be used while baby is sleeping (they come out quickly with velcro). I just couldn't pass up another place to bring in a punch of color in the room.

A swaddler. Also from the Lotta Jansdotter book I have been mentioning. Retro cowboys outside, lovely flannel inside.

And a cute decal on the cabinet (complete with pug-butt).

I am sitting here realizing I have not gotten pictures of several other projects though, including my 2 baby wraps and a danged cute little hat. And if he doesn't get here in a timely fashion I may just give up and start on some more sewing projects, too. I wanted to wait on pants, a diaper cover, some shoes/clothing items until I can measure against him, but they may just start getting sewn anyway.

I have had such a good time sewing! I had forgotten how much I love it. And it is so QUICK compared to knitting. Hmm, now I am feeling a little inspired to get some more sewing in....

My helper (who I am told I have to come up with a better name for) is coming this afternoon. Maybe I will do some more sewing while I am up in my office when she is here......

More Sewing Projects

Hi all! Well, my due date of yesterday has come and gone and no baby. But, this morning I told Mr Danger that is probably a good thing since I seem to be getting more done right now than I have ever in my entire life. Trying to distract myself from the last (hopefully) few days of being pregnant means I am doing lots of knitting done. Especially since I am feeling really tired and about the only thing I am capable of right now is sitting on the couch and knitting. I am thinking that if Baby Danger is a full 2 weeks late I will be able to get the whole year's worth of patterns written....

I've got a couple more of my sewing projects to share! I have been sewing out of Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing For Baby book and just loving every project. I did the quilted play mat thing in monster fabric:

And loved it so much I also did it in skulls:

Fun! And I think they will be really handy to throw down under Baby Danger all over the place.

Alrighty, I am off to go snuggle on the couch with the pugs and get as much knitting in as I can! Although after typing this I have now remembered I was going to make one of the tag blankies from the Lotta book too out of some leftover fabric. Maybe there will be a little more sewing today......

This Week I am Loving...

Yarn. Yes, how sad is that? We all know that I love yarn, but since I am seeing an end in sight with these danged maternity clothes, I have started looking at sweater patterns again and dreaming.

Of course looking at lots of patterns, I am starting to seek out yarns to make said patterns.

My favorite yarns are anything from Malabrigo, especially their Sock and of course the Worsted. I do tend to try and knit everything out of their yarns that I can. I just always find the projects I make out of Malabrigo yarns are projects that come out great and get a lot of wear. I also have fallen for Spud and Chloe, in particular the Sweater.

Do you guys have go-to yarns like that?

Over the last couple years of pattern writing I am feeling like I am getting blind to yarn selection. It seems like I have several go-to staples that I tend to use on what feels like every project. I know there is a huge world of yarn out there and I am feeling like branching out. I am dying to know some of you-all's favorite yarns, both for toys and for garments, etc. Tell me what you love and look for excuses to knit with, wont you?

 

Baby Projects

So I am due on Friday and impatiently waiting for this little guy to make his appearance. I know I have been bad on the blogging, but I am not feeling like being on the computer the last couple days. But, I managed to get my camera downstairs and today I've got a couple pictures of some of my recent baby sewing projects. Pillows (plus Claude from the book, oh and packed bag ready for baby):

Monster wall decals (found on clearance at Babies R Us). I guess not technically a sewing project, but definitely a baby project:

And changing pad cover and basket liner made by me, plus more decals. I made a second changing pad cover in the green/blue stripe of the pillow in the chair as well.

Fun huh? I have more to share, but I am saving it for another day since like I said blogging seems to be challenging for me this week.

 

Lazy Sunday

So all the baby sewing is done except fixing the crib bumpers. They tie in and with how our crib is, that makes them sorta saggy, and saggy around baby sleeping areas is bad. So, I bought some sticky velcro and I am off to velcro them in so they hang better (and they are a quick change). I plan to gather everything together tomorrow morning and take a bunch of pictures of all the projects I have accomplished so I can share them with you. I could still make a pair or two of baby shoes, but I am kinda waiting until he gets here and I can see how big he is first (and how impractical baby shoes might be, or if I think I can handle them).

Man I have just loved being at the sewing machine every day this week though, which was a huge surprise to me. After running my handbag business for about 7 years and doing production sewing on literally thousands of bags, it sort of lost its charm. But apparently I have had enough of a break that I am back to loving it.

I have a couple fun things to share today. A little late, but this is the best April Fool's joke I saw this year. I have been thinking about it since the 1st, so I might as well share it.

And darn that Kim Hargreaves! I don't even know why, but I hopped on her website yesterday and discovered she has a new pattern book out that I am lusting over. It is called Whisper, and it is drool-worthy.

I mean for goodness sake she even threw in leopard. It is like my 2 favorite things in the whole world are now combined in one place. (Those 2 favorite things being leopard print and Kim Haregreaves books) I do believe it will be ordered and on its way to me before I go to bed tonight. And then I can dream all night of having a waist again and playing it up in her beautiful designs......

Off to fix those bumpers and then knit the rest of the day!

 

It's A Pouf!

So, the pouf is finished and I thought I would share pictures with you since it is pretty cool:

Remember I mentioned it here? I was just waiting to get comforters to fill it and we happened to go to Ikea last week, so I picked up 3 super cheap queen-sized comforters while I was there. So, it is done now and the thing is HUGE! I swear, it is like 3 feet across and 2 feet tall. Wow! I was not expecting that.

I love it though! It will make a great footstool for me, and I think an awesome kiddo cushion in the future. Fun, huh?

So, we woke up to a good 1-2" of snow this morning. Yes snow. In the middle of April. When I found out we were pregnant and due in April the last thing that crossed my mind was a contingency plan of how to get to the birth center if there was snow on the ground! Weird, huh? But it works since today I am doing a bit more sewing for Baby Danger and knitting and I think snow on the ground outside makes for a good crafting day inside. Off to sew a couple quick pillows and a Moby wrap!

This Week I Am Loving...

...knitters! And especially internet knitters. I received these amazing gifts from a group of you guys who got together and threw me a virtual baby shower:

There are sweaters, and hats, and soakers, and booties, and toys, and burp cloths, and an amazing star shaped blanket, and such sweet cards! It is just amazing, thanks so much guys! ( I realized what a horrible picture this is....I really should take some better ones!)

How awesome is the knitting community that it gets together in secret and does these kinds of things for others? I sometimes feel bad because I talk about my "internet friends" and I know how weird that must sound to people. But, when internet friends that have never met in person do this kind of thing for others, there is really no one else I would rather be friends with.

I have been thinking about how kind and generous and amazing this is since last week when I stopped and picked these up (and actually since Christmas when you all did the monster ornament surprise for me as well). I love it when people are so awesome, it just warms my heart.

So this week I am loving my internet friends. Thanks for being there.
